A co-signer is someone who agrees to take legal responsibility for your loan if you can't pay. Lenders ask for a co-signer when your credit is new, thin, or spotty-or when your income alone doesn't qualify you for the amount you want to borrow.

**How it helps:**
A creditworthy co-signer (often a parent, spouse, or trusted family member) uses their credit score and income to strengthen your application. This can mean approval on a loan you'd otherwise be denied, or approval at a better interest rate.

**What a co-signer does:**
Your co-signer doesn't put money down and doesn't own the car-but they're fully legally liable if you miss payments. Late payments hurt their credit too. So choose someone you trust, and make your payments on time.

**Next step:**
Our finance team at Genesis of Downers Grove can discuss whether a co-signer makes sense for your situation and walk you through the process. Give us a call at **(630) 598-9950** to explore your options-we're here to help you find a path to approval.
