Both send power to all four wheels, but they work differently and suit different needs.

**All-Wheel Drive (AWD):**
AWD automatically shifts power to whichever wheels have the most traction-front, rear, or a mix. It engages smoothly and constantly. Great for slippery conditions (snow, rain, mud) and doesn't require driver input. The trade-off: slightly lower fuel economy and higher cost than two-wheel drive. Most sedans and crossovers use AWD.

**Four-Wheel Drive (4WD):**
4WD is designed for serious off-road work. You manually select "4WD High" for slippery roads or "4WD Low" for slow, tough terrain (rock crawling, deep snow). It's tougher and more capable but heavier, less efficient, and overkill for normal winter driving. Found on trucks and large SUVs.

**Quick answer:**
If you live in snow country and drive normal roads, AWD is your sweet spot. If you tow heavy or go off-road regularly, 4WD is worth it.
