Both address vehicle issues, but they're handled very differently. Understanding the distinction helps you know which problems need immediate attention.

**Recalls:**
A recall is a manufacturer-issued fix for a safety defect or major quality issue that affects many vehicles. NHTSA (the government) oversees recalls. If your car is recalled, the manufacturer *must* fix it for free-no matter how old the car or how many miles you've driven. Recalls are listed by VIN on NHTSA.gov or you can ask your dealership. Ignoring a safety recall is risky.

**Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs):**
TSBs are instructions for dealers on how to address a known issue-often a minor annoyance (rattles, small leaks, software updates) that doesn't qualify as a safety defect. TSBs are optional for the customer and may or may not be free. Some dealers waive labor; some don't. You can request them, but there's no legal mandate.

**Quick rule:**
Recalls are mandatory, free, and safety-critical. TSBs are optional and often worth asking about during service.

**At Genesis of Downers Grove:**
Our Service team checks for open recalls and TSBs when your car comes in. **Call (630) 598-9950** to ask about any issues or to schedule a recall service.
